Developers Stewart Milne are confident Wigan's economy will receive a boost when the first commercial units are let at their landmark development in the heart of the town. Malcolm Deans, managing director of the commercial property division of the Stewart Milne Group, said: "Wigan's economy no longer relies on the traditional industries of the past and this vibrant town is developing a heartbeat of forward-thinking businesses. "Nowhere is this more evident than at Trencherfield Mill, a former cotton mill that has been transformed into what will become a bustling urban village, complete with new homes, offices, a hotel, restaurants, pub, and fashionable shopping areas. "We are proud to be investing in Wigan. As well as providing new employment opportunities in the town, our redevelopment of Trencherfield Mill will undoubtedly lead the way in attracting future investors to the area. "The commercial units at Trencherfield Mill are designed to a high specification to suit tenants looking for first class facilities for their employees and something unique from their working environment." The regeneration of Trencherfield Mill, situated alongside the Leeds-Liverpool canal, has created 252 stunning apartments, 5,350 sq m (57,595 sq ft) of high specification office space, a retail unit providing 912 sq m (9,815 sq ft) and cafe and retail kiosk units totalling 660 sq m (7,000 sq ft). There are also plans for a new bar and restaurant and proposals for a hotel. The four floors of office space within the beautifully converted mill each have their own distinctive features, including sand-blasted exposed brickwork, floor to ceiling windows and large back-lit light displays. On the top floor, a huge atrium allows natural light to flood into the building to create a bright and inspiring workplace. It is hoped the first commercial units will be let in the next few weeks and the first business tenants moving in shortly afterwards. Up to seven commercial tenants could occupy the office space at any one time, and they are suitable for a range of businesses such as call centre operators and financial service providers. |
